The Silence Industry was formed in early 2007, spearheaded by Graham as its primary member and creative force. The project's lineup is fluid, welcoming collaborators who share Graham's vision at any given time.
The Silence Industry does not aim to create accessible or conventional music. It is a raw, do-it-yourself endeavor that prioritizes artistic integrity over mainstream appeal. The music is unapologetic and uncompromising - an unfiltered outpouring of expression. If it doesn’t resonate with everyone, that’s entirely by design, not out of arrogance but as a simple matter of artistic truth.
To date, The Silence Industry has released nine or ten works - depending on how one counts - which are available online for free, though some may require dedicated searching. Over the years, the band has collaborated with several Netlabels, including Ekleipsi, Enough Records, and afmusic, among others.
The Silence Industry strongly supports the principles of libre-music, viewing music not as a commercial product but as a multifaceted medium: a form of expression, communication, sound, and noise; a personal journal, a love letter, agit-prop, poetry, and even fun. Music, to Graham and his collaborators, is a shared experience, a space for minds to explore and grow. While it can inevitably take on the shape of entertainment, The Silence Industry consciously resists the commodification of its work in a profit-driven world.
The band draws inspiration from a diverse range of influences, including post-punk, progressive rock, folk, labor songs, experimental noise, and even pop music - an unavoidable byproduct of immersion in a commercially saturated culture from birth.
The Silence Industry invites listeners to explore its music, to connect with it on a personal level, and to experience the journey it offers.
